Grandpa Waskul was our grandfather too - we'd see him every week, conducting bookstudy at the Schneidereight home. Went to a couple of baseball games with him and Grandma Waskul, and I remember their strange orange basement with collectables hanging on the wall. Very faithful man, and it's worth noting the tribulations he endured during WWII. His integrity was truly unique.

My favorite memory of Uncle Joe is playing croquet in his yard. He was so good at it that for everyone else the only goal was to keep him from winning. Which he always did. :) Good times. Looking forward to many more in the paradise!

I loved the family picnic's Uncle Joe, Aunt Betty would have. I remember Uncle Joe letting me drive his riding lawn mower and him teaching me to hit a golf ball. Especially the day I hit the bird house and he said that's enough for today. I got my first bee sting at their place and played horse shoes with him. Aunt Betty made the best strawberry preserves! I wished many times Sarah was my sister. I never got used to sulfur smelling and tasting water but loved every visit. Love Bobby

Grandpa waskul was a part in so many people's life. Mine as well. He was like a grandpa to all us Nicke kids growing up. He was a great man Leah and it pains me to here of his passing. I instantly remember being in his basement at his mt Clemens home as a kid. What a kids playground!!!
Marc Nicke
Joe & Betty were pillars in the Mt. Clemens Congregation of Jehovahs Witnesses for decades. They were missed when they moved down south & they are missed now that they are both sleeping in death. Still, we know Jehovah will not forget their decades of faithful service & we will see them again after the resurrection. John 5:28 & 29 To their family we offer our love & support. If you need anything, please do not hesitate to ask.
Love, the Patru Family
He was a special man, and it's wonderful that he passed away surrounded by people who loved him.

There's so many things I'd like to say but I feel at a loss for words. The pain of losing such a wonderful person is wrenching. Not only does it make me remember what a kind, loving man he was but it reminds me of the other loved ones that we've lost..... I know Uncle Joe is resting peacefully (along with our other loved ones) until Jesus calls his name in the resurrection. I look forward to hugging each and every one of them again. Until then our hearts ache.....

My wife Jill and I have known Joe and Betty since they moved here and started coming to Masonboro congregation years ago . They were always friendly and encouraging . We will miss them both greatly. They were a very good example of loyal servants of Jehovah.

Grandpa would always come home from work and i would be napping in grandmas bed, i always woke up with grandpa giving me a big kiss on the cheek, then I would follow behind him and I would enter the living room with the sound of Ernie Harwells voice broadcasting the Detroit Tigers game, grandpa would be in his chair watching it while drinking his 7Up and I would sit and watch with him. Along with that, after he retired from Ford Motor Company as a draftsman, he gave me his drafting table and tools. I know he was proud when I took up drafting and design as a career. Although he would draw gears and mechanical parts and I draw houses, him sharing that with me is a big reason I got interested in the field. Many other things we shared together, but he had a good impact on me in my younger years and he will live on in who I am and when Jocelyn asks me when i started liking the Tigers, or how i got into drafting and lots of other things, she will hear a lot of grandpa stories. Grandpa meant a lot.

We are so sorry to hear about Grandpa Waskul. But we are glad that his loving family was at his side right up to the end. What a blessing for him, one that he will remember forever in the new world. Please know that your entire family is in our prayers and we send our deepest condolences.
-- Much love from Tom and Mary Ellen Nicke.

To my 2nd most cherished family: No one has ever taught me more about family as you have. One of the ways you did that was by how you TAKE CARE of each other and always love each other NO MATTER WHAT. Taking care of Grandpa and Grandma W was another prime example of how you did this. These two amazing people made and raised your beautiful wife and contributed so so much to their family in love and memories. I love them tremendously and I do the Nicke family. Love and prayers to my 2nd family during this difficult time. (((((Hugs))))) to Leah Nicke, Rachel Nicke, Joey Nicke and Joe Nicke and Nana Sarah!!!!

How he looked, how he spoke, how he laughed, how he lived and how he loved...
These are things you'll always remember. Thinking of you all in your time of great loss.

Sarah and you are the best daughter and son in law he could have had. And he has the best grandkids too. Remember the good times. ((Hugs))

Mr Waskul, I am a friend/neighbor of your granddaughter, Leah. I never had the pleasure of meeting you or your beautiful wife, however, I have heard many heart warming stories of the two of you while visiting with Leah. You have left your family with many loving memories for them to live on for a very long time. You will truly be missed. Rest In Peace!
Brenda Thompson
Joe and Betty Waskul were among the nicest people I ever had the pleasure to know; they were always happy to help others. They loved you and Sarah so much (and your children/grandchildren). You all brought them MUCH joy and happiness, and support, they always had a smile on their faces! - you were always one of their primary sources for joy. Their story is now told; and it is a very good one. It will be wonderful when we can be with them both again.

A great Brother and book study conductor. I have a lot of great memories with you and Betty, miss the BBQ's. Have a peaceful rest, if I'm there, I'll see you in the New System. XOXOXO
Kathleen Ann Nicke
Joe waskul will be missed. When April and I come over to the nicke house to visit we will miss seeing Joe smiling and saying hello to us in the kitchen. Joe was a sweet and loving man. Even though this is a sad time for family and friends it makes me happy that he is in heaven and is with his wife. Joe is looking down right now and is thankfull of his loving family and friends that took care of him and loved him.

I can remember as a kid going to see Joe with my Grandma & Grandpa Jayne. My thoughts and prayers are with all the friends and family.

Thank you for putting together such a nice website and for conferencing the memorial service for those of us far away.  I wish I had the fond memories I've been reading from others.  Lots of things to look forward to in the new world and amazing family reunions to plan! Until that time, my heart goes out to your family and you'll be in my prayers.
Brandi Waskul
Darling Sarah, we loved Uncle Joe & Aunt Betty so very much. I have wonderful memories of being a little girl, staying with Betty & Grandma in the Palmer Park apt, getting a "bride doll" as a consolation prize for my parents not taking me to your parents' gorgeous wedding, and meeting you, their adored baby girl. I remember having so much fun & amazing food at family gatherings in Willis, and later enjoying lovely football evenings with them in their home in Mt Clemons. (Doug told me that Joe was his favorite of all of the uncles.) I'm so glad they could be safe & well-cared for in your home...I know that Jehovah will bless the love & honor you showed to them. Doug remembers your Joe working with him, helping on a project back in St Clair Shores North. We haven't seen each other in a long time, but love remains & memories are strong. We will be with you on Sunday. This is a beautiful memorial site and your words were filled with love. Looking forward to all of us getting together again, well, strong and joyful...(I hope those amazing sweet potatoes & green beans will be on the table...I've never been able to duplicate them...or maybe it's because the wonderful Jayne siblings & Grandma weren't there). Sending you, Joe & the kids so much love...I have always had a special spot in my heart for you...
Love, Nancy Mach
Bro. Waskill was in our Dunn,N.C. Congregation. I loved both he and Betty. I miss both of them. My husband Radon and I visited them in their home and ours. Their love for Jehovah was very obvious. The last time I was with them was at the home of my daughter, RaDonna and her husband Chris Torgeson in Wilmington, N.C.

Joe was an excellent example of a man. He always did things by the book. I am glad I had the privilege to have him in my life.

Carol and I were saddened to hear of our brother's passing! Please give our love, condolences to all in the family.  And we will of course keep you all in our prayers. We SO look forward to God's promise of the resurrection and seeing all of our loved ones again in Paradise. And of course the promise of "no more sickness & death."  Rev. 21:3,4. We will do our best to tune in to the Memorial service also on Sunday. (We are traveling back from seeing family in the southwest this week, and are flying back to Michigan Sunday evening). Much love to you guys, especially Sarah during a difficult time.

We have such fine memories of Brother and Sister Waskul. Joe was always so organized. Took his assignments seriously, always on top of things. Yet, was kind, always an encouragement to others. He was an example for us all. Even though it has been many years. I still remember meaningful conversations i enjoyed with him and things i learned from him. I know he will be missed by family and friends. How encouraging to know that we can see Joe and Betty again soon. This must be such a comfort for you. Thank you for sharing this web page with us.

Uncle Joe and Aunt Betty are part of my earliest memories.  The favorite times of my childhood were spent at their home, playing with Sarah and being part of their family for a week at a time.  The Jayne family reunions held at their Willis house, with Uncle Joe and the guys playing baseball in the backyard and Aunt Betty and her sisters (including my mom, Nellie) cooking yummy food, are good times I will never forget. I'm so thankful for the loving care they received from you Sarah and Joe, and all of your children.  I look forward to the good times ahead and the unbelievably happy day when their next thoughts will be in paradise and we can be reunited..................let's have a great big
family reunion again.
All my love,
Kathy Nicke
_We have many fond memories of Joe & Betty. He loved the meetings, he told me when he was younger he loved giving public talks. He often expressed his confidence in Gods Kingdom and we have no doubt he will be among the millions we will see brought back to life in the coming paradise earth. Whenever we see the moon shining brightly we will remember Joe saying to Betty when he saw the moon that "there will be smooching tonight'!

It was such a great pleasure in taking care of your dad for 6 months. He was such a delightful man to be around. He always had a smile er for me when I came to visit him and take care of him. He did for me whatever I needed him to do according to his showers or baths. I enjoyed his company. Very sweet man. I will greatly miss him.

I was so sorry to hear the news. I have happy memories of meeting Joe and Betty when they came to the UK  and when we met them in Florida in 1984.They and Leonard and Dorothy Jean were so kind to mum and me on our visit.
Rosie Allen
The love (Joe and Betty) shared was a testament to the God they served. So very happy and spiritual.  They showed me that the love they shared was because they loved Jehovah, and a few times when Joe looked at  Betty it was like the first time he saw her!!!👀 😆That big grin,😆 (ya'all are picturing it right now.)♡   ♡   ♡     ♡     ♡   ♡   ♡
Kim Pfromm
The Waskuls were an inspiration to all in the congregation. Betty always had a smile on her face and Joe's positive attitude when he would reply when you asked him how he was doing, he would say, "I'm hanging in there." We loved them both very much and will miss them.
Bruce and Ann Torgeson
So sorry for the loss of your Dad. We have many happy memories of Joe & Betty at the Kingdom Hall, out in service & square dancing.
He's safe in Jehovah's memory now.
Bob & Heidi Pisa
Sarah and Joe we are thinking about you and your family during this sad time. You were blessed to be capable to take care of Joe and Betty during their senior years as much as they were blessed by you.
Ann Marie Cooper
Joe was my favorite uncle. It was really great having Joe, Betty, and Sarah live so close to us when they lived in North Branch, MI. When Joe was around, it was always good, all the time.
